In 2005, the Philippines is the ninth largest sugar producer in the world and second largest sugar producer among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, after Thailand, according to Food and Agriculture Organization. Indonesia's trade surplus increased to USD 2.34 billion in February 2020 from USD 0.33 billion surplus in the same month of the previous year and compared with market consensus of a USD 0.09 billion. This was the first trade surplus since October last year, as exports unexpectedly jumped while imports fell.
