Oil and gas industry processes
Oil and gas wells produce a mixture of hydrocarbon gas, condensate or oil; water with dissolved minerals, usually including a large amount of salt; other gases, including nitrogen, carbon dioxide (CO 2), and possibly hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S); and solids, including sand from the reservoir, dirt, scale, and corrosion products from the tubing. The purpose of oil and gas processing is to separate, remove, or transform these various components to make the hydrocarbons ready for sale. A Facilities Engineer is responsible to design and optimize the oil and gas surface facilities such as: pipelines, processing equipment for oil/water separation, dehydration, vapor recovery and gas handling. Another important aspect is to design and implement automated well testing and well safety control systems. Production is the process of extracting the hydrocarbons and separating the mixture of liquid hydrocarbons, gas, water, and solids, removing the constituents that are non-saleable, and selling the liquid hydrocarbons and gas. Production sites often handle crude oil from more than one well. Unconventional O&G drilling then proceeds in two major phases: directional drilling and well stimulation. Directional Drilling. The process begins by drilling to the bottom of a fresh water aquifer. The drill is then retracted and pulls the loose rocks and sediment to the surface to be discarded (i.e., drilling muds).
The major separation process in the oil and gas extraction business is undoubtedly that of oil from water, with the purification of gas second in importance mainly because it is easier. These two situations mean that the bulk of separations technology in the industry is given over to sedimentation equipment, with knock-out drums, and API and lamellar separators most important.
The oil and gas business operates within complex global and national frameworks. Expansion into new geographical regions and environments — such as ultra deepwater drilling — is creating new The purpose of this web site is to provide process engineering information for the Oil and Gas Industry. This web site will primarily address upstream oil and gas production. Upstream oil and gas production is the area from the well head to the oil export line and all of the processing in between, including NGL plants. 40% of digital transformation initiatives will use RPA services. Oil and gas companies are streamlining and simplifying operations by creating intelligent enterprises based on industrialized and intelligent cloud services that enable innovative technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA). The remainder of the diagram is the actual process, often called the gas oil separation plant (GOSP). While there are oil- or gas-only installations, more often the well-stream will consist of a full range of hydrocarbons from gas (methane, butane, propane, etc.), condensates (medium density hydrocarbons) to crude oil. Natural-gas processing is a complex industrial process designed to clean raw natural gas by separating impurities and various non-methane hydrocarbons and fluids to produce what is known as pipeline quality dry natural gas. Natural-gas processing begins at the well head. The composition of the raw natural gas extracted from producing wells depends on the type, depth, and location of the underground deposit and the geology of the area. Oil and natural gas are often found together in the same rese

But the Basic process involved in the oil and gas industry are: Exploration, Well Development, Production, Site abandonment. These reservoirs of oil and gas are our sources for crude oil and gas. Hydrocarbons are brought to the surface by drilling through the cap rock and into the reservoir. Once the drill bit reaches the reservoir, a productive oil or gas well can be constructed and the hydrocarbons can be pumped to the surface. Oil and natural gas systems encompass wells, gas gathering and processing facilities, storage, and transmission and distribution pipelines. These components are all important aspects of the natural gas cycle—the process of getting natural gas out of the ground and to the end user.
